Seasoned Unified Communications Expert Tom Puorro Joins Plantronics

Unified communication news

Plantronics, an audio pioneer and unified communications (UC) technology leader, today announced Tom Puorro is joining the company as Executive Vice President, General Manager, Group Systems. In this role, Puorro will lead the team responsible for audio and video collaboration solutions for the modern workplace.

“Tom’s deep knowledge and passion for the UC business make him a tremendous addition to our leadership and product teams,” said Joe Burton, Plantronics President and Chief Executive Officer. “His experience will help us execute our vision and grow our position as the communications and collaboration partner of choice.”

“The UC industry is exploding and driving demand for easier and more consistent experiences across meeting rooms of all sizes and shapes,” said Puorro. “Plantronics is uniquely positioned to meet the market needs of our global customers with a broad and growing portfolio.”

Puorro joins the Plantronics leadership team as the company is focusing more heavily on simplifying the conferencing experience, regardless of the underlying UC platforms. A recent study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Plantronics found that video conferencing is growing in usage, in the number of solutions, and in overall complexity for end users. In fact, 74 percent of IT decision makers and professionals say video conference calls have increased over the past two years, signaling a need for simple endpoints.

Puorro brings with him 25 years of UC experience, most recently at Cisco in the role of VP, Engineering and VP & GM of the Cisco Unified Communications Technology Group. As the VP, Engineering at Cisco, Puorro oversaw the company’s video and voice endpoints, including all video phones, telepresence, and Tandberg, and led Cisco’s acquisition of BroadSoft.

Puorro assumes his role as Executive Vice President, GM, Group Systems effective today.
